General:

Why should I order from you?
We only carry brand new, high quality products at very competitive prices! We provide excellent customer service and will always be here to help you with any questions. Check our references to see what others have said about us.

Canadian residents might be happy to know that by ordering from us rather than outside Canada, duties on products are avoided. Additionally, depending on where you live, some taxes are avoided, rather than both GST and PST (unless you live in Quebec). No taxes on international orders!

Why are your prices so low? Do you sell used or refurbished products?
Believe it or not, people do ask us this quite often. All of the products we sell are BRAND NEW. We are able to offer lower pricing because of our low cost business model. We sell via mail order which enables us to reduce overhead and pass those savings on to you. This does not mean we provide lousy service. We strive to provide the best possible service.

Can I talk to you by phone? How can I contact you?
pauseplaystop.com is easily reachable by telephone. Feel free to call us during business hours (10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. EST) at our customer service number (514-265-3826) to ask a question. If we're on another call, just leave a message and we'll call you back promptly.
You can also quickly fill out our response form and we'll get back to you quickly. Just click here.

Can I come and pick up my order at your location?
No, sorry but we do not have a pick up location.

I heard I can make money as an affiliate of Pause Play Stop, where can I get more information?
Please check out our affiliate FAQ for more information regarding our affiliate program.

I have another question or comment, how can I contact you?

Ordering:

How much will my order cost with shipping, tax and everything?
That depends on where your parcel is being delivered and how much it weighs. The easiest way to preview the total cost of your order is to add the items you want to your shopping cart and then select your shipping destination. Provincial tax for orders shipped within Canada (except Quebec) is not charged however GST is charged. We do not charge any taxes for orders shipped outside Canada.

Is the item I want in stock?
All products on this website are in stock unless otherwise indicated.

What do you charge for shipping?
The easiest way to check your shipping cost is to add the items you would like to your shopping cart and click the "Proceed to Checkout" button. There's also link on the shopping cart page that shows all our shipping prices, including prices for international shipments. Or you can just click here to go there right now!

How will you ship my order?
All of our products are shipped quickly by Canada Post's courier service (Expedited within Canada, Xpresspost for international shipments). Sorry no P.O. Boxes accepted outside Canada, shipping companies won't deliver to them.

How long will it take for my order to arrive?

We ship orders the next business day from when they are placed. All orders to Canada and the U.S.A. generally take between one and six business days. European orders usually take between 5 and 9 days. South American, African and Asian orders usually take from 6 to 10 days. Please keep in mind that international orders must pass through customs.

Please note: we reserve the right to cancel any order without prior notice in which case the credit card used will be refunded or not charged.

What's this I hear about a levy or tax on blank media in Canada?
The prices you see on blank MiniDiscs on this website is the total price you'll pay (besides taxes if applicable, and shipping). You will never be billed more than the price clearly indicated when you check out.

New federal copyright legislation came into effect in Canada. This legislation requires for a levy to be collected on blank audio recording media. Click here for more information about the levy.

Gift Certificates:

Do you offer gift certificates?
Yes we do. A gift certificate is paid for like any other product ordered on this website. The person receiving the gift certificate can then use it to purchase any item in the shop. The certificate essentially acts as a discount up to the value remaining on the certificate.

Someone bought me a gift certificate, can I use only a portion of the gift certificate?
Any unused balance will be placed in your gift certificate account. You can use the remaining amount another day.

Can I order something that costs more then my gift certificate amount?
Yes. You will be required to pay the difference between the amount purchased and the value of the gift certificate.

Someone bought me a gift certificate, how can I redeem it?
During the checkout process you will be asked if you have a gift certificate. Simply enter the gift code in the text area provided and continue. It's that easy.

Are gift certificates refundable?
Gift certificates are not redeemable for cash and cannot be returned for a cash refund.

Will my gift certificate expire at some point in time?
Gift certificates and unused portions of gift certificates expire one year from the date of issue.

Payment:

What payment methods do you accept? Can I pay by cheque?

We accept credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Diners Club), PayPal, money order and certified cheque payments. Because of the number of cheques we've received that have bounced and the long time it takes for some cheques to clear, we no longer accept personal cheques. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Money orders can be written up for you at your bank and usually your nearest post office. Certified cheques can also be written up at your bank. To order by any payment method, just add the items you want to your cart and follow the directions. You can order online through our secure web page with Visa, Master Card or American Express. If you prefer you may also call us to place a credit card order.

I don't live in U.S.A. or Canada. Can I still pay using my credit card and how much will it cost?
Yes. The total amount charged on your card will depend on the current exchange rate and any fees your bank may charge. For your safety as well as ours, orders outside the U.S.A. and Canada can only be shipped to the address of the credit card used for the purchase.

Return Policy and Guarantees:

What are your guarantees and what is your return policy?

Our blank MiniDiscs come with a one year Pause Play Stop guarantee. If you have a defective disc you can exchange it for a new one (In the unlikely event that a disc arrives cracked you have 7 business days to send it back).

Items that are labeled with a "1 year Pause Play Stop warranty" are guaranteed to be free from manufacturer defects for 1 year from the date of purchase. The unit may be repaired if a defect is found within that time period. If the unit arrives in defective condition, you may return it within 7 days.

More details can be found on our return policy page.

Please read our return policy before ordering.

What if the price of an item drops after I've already ordered? Can I get refunded for the difference?

We always offer the best prices we can but unfortunately the prices we pay for products change very quickly. These changes our beyond our control. Because of this we cannot offer refunds if prices drop.

Security and Privacy:

What is your privacy policy? Do you keep my personal information private?
We firmly believe in practicing responsible e-business. Absolutely all information submitted to us is kept private. We do not and will never divulge, sell or reveal any information you submit to anybody.

Naturally this applies to your email address as well. If you are on our mailing list and do not wish to receive any more emails. Simply let us know and we guarantee that we won't send you anymore messages.

For your protection, all transactions take place through a secure server.

Are transactions on your website secure?
Our website uses the most powerful available SSL encryption technology to prevent personal information from being intercepted and used.

What do you do to protect against credit card fraud?
All orders are subject to a fraud screening process. Your card information is verified with your issuing bank to make sure it is YOU placing the order. Please note that if your order information cannot be verified by the card issuing bank, the order will be delayed or deleted.
Did you know that it is safer to order online than going to a store....how you ask? When you order online, only you know your credit card information. When in a store, everyone who handles your card can get all the information written on your card, including the numbers on the back. With online shopping, you are protected by your credit card against online fraud.

MiniDisc Technology:

What's so good about MiniDisc technology?
Perhaps the most valued benefit of MiniDisc technology is the ease at which you can record from a wide variety of sources onto MiniDisc while maintaining high quality. You can also record over and over on the same MiniDisc as many times as you like. When compared with memory, the low price per blank MiniDisc makes this an attractive option. MiniDiscs are small in size (72 (W) x 68 (D) x 5 (H) mm) and MD players are virtually skip proof.

What types of files can I record on MiniDisc?
The short answer to this is any and all. MiniDisc recorders convert all sound sources to a special data compression format (Adaptive Transform Acoustic Coding, or ATRAC). This means you can record from your computer, stereo, or any other source with an output. MiniDisc recorders with microphone inputs even allow you to record your lectures, interviews or solo performances easily.

Are my recordings going to be digital?
MiniDisc recorders come with an optical input and cables which allows you to record digitally from any digital format. Your sound source needs to be capable of producing a digital signal otherwise the recording will be in analog format.

What's the difference in quality between the various brands of discs?
All discs are virtually the same in quality since they are digital. The main difference is the look of them, some are better looking than others! Keep in mind that we warrantee all discs for one year, as well.

What's this MDLP thing all about?
MDLP stands for MiniDisc Long Play. It's a new MiniDisc compression technology which allows you to record up to 320 minutes on a single 80 minute MiniDisc. MDLP recorders allow you to record in LP2 mode (160 minutes on an 80 minute MiniDisc), LP4 mode (320 minutes on an 80 minute MiniDisc). Recording quality in LP2 mode is very close to standard mode. LP4 mode is said to produce slightly reduced high and low tones. LP4 mode is still suitable for portable uses and recording MP3s which generally don't have superb quality anyway.

Can I play my old (non MDLP recorded) MiniDiscs with my MDLP MiniDisc Player?
Yes. However if you try to play an MDLP recorded disc on a non MDLP unit the track will sound silent.

Do I have to record to MiniDisc in real time? Can NetMD help me?
NetMD technology allows you drag and drop audio files from your computer to your MiniDisc and record at higher speeds (depending on the recorder the speeds can go up to 32 or 64X). NetMD technology transfers audio digitally via USB. This requires that your computer have a USB port.

Can I record digitally from my MiniDisc player to my computer?

You can record either digitally or in analog format to your PC.

If you have a NetMD recorder:
Christian Kuklas has created a convenient WinMD utility that makes uploading in real time a easy. Otherwise, you can use the methods below.

Digital Recording:
You'll need a MD machine with a digital output, a sound card or USB device with a digital input, and the appropriate cables to hook everything together. At present, there is no MD consumer model portable recorder available that has a digital output. There are professional machines that have digital outputs, but they are much larger than the consumer model portables and are more expensive. For information on using a portable machine, skip down to Analog recording.

There are a few MiniDisc home decks that have digital optical outputs.

We sell a sound card with optical outputs. Here is a link to the specs page:

MAudio Revolution Surround Sound PCI Card (Windows and Mac)

You'll need the proper optical digital cables. Both of the sound cards we sell have Toslink optical connectors, so you'll need one Toslink to Toslink optical cable. Here is a link to the specs for the Toslink cable:
/shopexd.asp?id=54

All of the above can be found in our "accessories" section.

Analog Recording:

If you have a sound card that has an analog input, which is standard on most sound cards that come stock with the majority of PC's, you can record from the analog line out of either a portable or a deck into that sound card. The cable that you would need to accomplish this, if you were recording from a portable into a line in on a sound card, is a miniplug to miniplug cable that can be found at the following webpage and is quite common, /shopexd.asp?id=56

Or if your sound card has a RCA analog line in you can use the following cable,
/shopexd.asp?id=55

Again, all of the above can be found in our "accessories" section.

Can I convert my MiniDisc recordings to computer format (WAV) files?
Click here to find out how you can convert tracks recorded through a Hi-MD device to WAV format files using this WAV Conversion Tool.

Where can I find out more information about Hi-MD technology?
Click here to visit Sony's Hi-MD information page.

I lost or damaged my NetMD SonicStage and NetMD Simple Burner Software CD. Where can I get it again?
